MALCOLM MOSS MP SPEAKS OUT ON STROKE SERVICE
LOCAL MP PRAISES NHS CAMBRIDGESHIRE IN THEIR
FIGHT AGAINST ONE OF
BRITAINS
BIGGEST KILLERS
North East Cambridgeshire MP Malcolm Moss
contributed in yesterday’s debate on stroke
services in the House of Commons.
It is a little known fact that strokes are
one of the most widespread and expensive
conditions in the UK, costing the nation
around £7 billion every single year. On
current trends the prevalence is set to
increase at a worrying rate. Years of
neglect in this area of public health policy
have left the UK with the unenviable
reputation of having some of the worst
outcomes for stroke patients in the whole of
Western Europe.
Malcolm Moss MP welcomed the National Stroke
Strategy, which was launched at the end of
2007.
During the debate he said that ‘it is
absolutely crucial, as many contributors to
this debate have said, that stroke victims
are seen as quickly as possible. In that
regard, I think that FAST, the new TV
campaign, which has been mentioned on many
occasions, has been successful.’
Malcolm Moss also praised the work of the
local Primary Care Trust during the House of
Commons debate:
‘I am pleased to say that NHS
Cambridgeshire, my local primary care trust,
has responded positively through its newly
published strategy. NHS Cambridgeshire
recently began a specific initiative in the
20% most deprived practices to implement
vascular risk checks and proactively
identify more people with risk factors for
Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD) who will then
be added to the CVD risk register. It
intends to offer practices a range of
options for providing vascular risk checks
to those people aged 40 to 70 years old.’
