MALCOLM MOSS MP WELCOMES NETWORK RAIL PUBLIC BRIEFINGS ON PHASE TWO IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF WHITEMOOR RAIL YARD

Malcolm Moss MP has welcomed the recent public briefings by Network Rail at March Town Hall where they outlined their plans for further development at Whitemoor Yard.

Over 130 people from March and its surrounding areas attended the briefings on Friday, 11 July 2008, and Saturday, 12 July 2008, to learn more about Phase Two of the company’s plan for the depot.

The plan will see a boost for the local economy with at least 25 new, permanent jobs created and the construction of a state-of-the-art recycling facility, specifically designed to improve the railway’s environmental performance and prevent materials such as ballast and concrete sleepers being sent to landfill sites.

Residents and community leaders who attended the briefings had an opportunity to review Network Rail’s proposal, discuss it in more detail with the company’s representatives and have their say by submitting feedback forms. The feedback forms will be reviewed and used to help shape some aspects of the development.

Malcolm Moss MP, comments: “I contacted Network Rail for an update on the recent Whitemoor Yard public briefings, having attended the Saturday session.

“I was impressed by both the number of people that attended these briefings and also by the way that information and views were freely shared between the company and the community.

“The process Network Rail has undertaken here indicates a genuine interest and willingness to engage and consult the local community, to understand what is important to them, so that together they can achieve a beneficial outcome for March. Network Rail should be applauded for this.

“I look forward to seeing the end result of this consultation process and the development itself, which will not only provide new jobs for the community, but a world-class recycling facility that March and the UK rail industry can be proud of.”
