Malcolm Gets
Facebook!
Malcolm Moss MP
starts a Facebook account to keep in
touch with younger constituents.
Last week Malcolm
Moss MP started a Facebook account to
keep in touch with his younger
constituents. The MP for North East
Cambridgeshire has had a website for
some time but believes that Facebook
provides greater opportunities for
interaction, in particular with young
people. The service is also thought to
be a relaxed approach to communication
which should help constituents to come
forward and express their opinion or ask
for help.
On starting a
Facebook account Mr Moss said; “It took
a while to get used to saying ‘hi’ and
‘bye’ in messages and being addressed
with ‘hey’ but it is great to talk to
constituents more casually, some have
already opened up a bit more and I am
starting to get a valuable insight into
the issues affecting my younger
constituents”.
Mr Moss is already
checking his Facebook account regularly
and welcomes new ‘friends’ from the
constituency. Mr Moss’s profile has the
latest news from Parliament and up to
date information on his activity in
North East Cambridgeshire and
Westminster. There is even a photo
gallery, showing people he has met and
places he has been as MP for North East
Cambridgeshire.
Mr Moss said that “I
have received messages of support from
constituents and some have asked about
serious and relevant issues, one student
asked a great question about funding for
the armed services and I was only to
happy to reply via Facebook. As my
parliamentary career comes to an end I
am only too aware that I have a duty to
engage young people in the truly
fascinating world of politics and if
that means I have to say ‘hey’ at the
beginning of a message, I can handle
it!”.
Mr Moss is inviting
all constituents to have a look at his
profile and message him but is
particularly excited about two groups he
is supporting on the social networking
site. One is for the North East
Cambridgeshire Conservative Association
and the other is for Fenland
Conservative Future. Mr Moss said “both
groups hold regularly meetings and
events and are run with great
enthusiasm, Facebook is a great way for
them to find new members and help people
to involve themselves in the politics
that affect them locally and
nationally”.

I will be happy to oblige!”
