Malcolm Moss
meets with representatives from
Remploy’s Wisbech factory
This week
(17th July 2007) Malcolm Moss
MP met with Michael Doherty from the T&G
Union and four representatives from the
Remploy factory in Wisbech.
In a meeting
in the House of Commons Malcolm Moss
listened to views of employees and took
on board their desire to develop the
facilities and operations in the Wisbech
factory which would require new
contracts and orders from businesses in
the Fenland area.
Malcolm Moss
was involved in the re-structuring of
Remploy when they moved from the
horticultural station to their present
premises in Venture Court and in fact he
was invited to open the new premises in
October 2005. In light of recent news
that the factory is under threat of
closure Malcolm Moss recently held a
meeting in his office in the House of
Commons with the Chairman of Remploy Ian
Russell and he was able to put forward a
full range of questions about the
Wisbech factory’s future.
Malcolm Moss
MP said:
“I was given
assurances that there would be no
compulsory redundancies but of course
these assurances are not guaranteed
forever. Taken at face value these
should ensure the survival of the
factory at Wisbech; an outcome that I
fully support. I was pleased to give the
Remploy visitors a full guided tour of
the Houses of Parliament and I have
agreed to visit the Remploy factory in
the next few weeks to meet up with all
the workers and discuss the issues
facing them now.”
