Malcolm Moss MP strokes Commons boat
to victory in Parliamentary Boat
Race
North
East Cambs MP Malcolm Moss took up
an oar after 40 years to take part
in the annual charity Parliamentary
Boat Race between the Lords and the
Commons organised by the All Party
Parliamentary Rowing Group and
sponsored by Siemens. The race
raised £5000 for two rowing
charities
The Commons “eight” made up of 4
Conservative, 1 Labour and 3 Liberal
Democrats and stroked by Malcolm
Moss, rowed to victory against the
Lords by two lengths over a 500m
course of the Thames between Lambeth
and Westminster Bridges . The crews
used replicas of the gig clinker
boats used in the first
Oxford/Cambridge Boat Race in 1829.
Malcolm Moss MP says:
“I hadn’t rowed since my
undergraduate days at Cambridge but
it was great to take part and raise
money for good causes. Rowing on a
fast ebb tide is quite exhilarating
and luckily we managed to stop
before shooting Westminster Bridge
and causing mayhem with the pleasure
boat traffic off Westminster Pier.”
