Manea residents’ hopes dashed over improved rail
services
As a result of
feedback during the recent local elections in
North East Cambridgeshire Malcolm Moss MP wrote
to Central Trains and One Railways enquiring
into the possibility of improved rail services
through Manea.
Feedback from the
rail companies has not been positive. Central
Trains stated that they would not be increasing
rail services through Manea as demand was not
there. One Railways claimed that practical
complications needed to be addressed before such
a change could be considered. The high volume of
trains going through Peterborough and Ely means
“slots” for services are very tight. For this
reason they claimed that implementing additional
stops at Manea would not look possible at
present.
Malcolm Moss MP
says:
“This is very
disappointing news as reports of previous
approaches had led us to anticipate a more
positive response. It seems ironic that as one
of the few settlements in North East Cambs with
access to a mainline, Manea is still unable to
access an adequate and regular service for its
residents.”
