Malcolm Moss Visits Cromwell Community College
On Friday 4th
May Malcolm Moss MP took up the Principal’s kind
invitation to visit Cromwell Community College
in Chatteris.
During his two hour
visit he met with the Principal of the school
Jed Roberts alongside the senior management
team, Vice Principal Lester Kent, and Assistant
Principals, Hilary Roberts, Charlie Robinson and
Chris Terry. During a round table discussion
Principal Roberts expressed his desire for the
school to achieve Specialist School status in
English.
Afterwards, Malcolm
Moss was given a guided tour by two students of
the school; Jordon Stimson and Joe Pawley. He
also observed a French class in progress and
spoke with the School Forum, the student body
made up of selected students, set up to discuss
various issues affecting the school.
Malcolm Moss MP
says:
“I was impressed
with the senior management team and their vision
for the future of Cromwell Community College.
They have offered a secure and well structured
environment that offers a good quality education
whilst catering for all abilities and
personalities.
“The atmosphere
within the school was most impressive; calm,
polite and mature. I had an interesting
discussion with the members of the School Forum
over whether the positions on the Forum should
be selected, as they currently are, or elected
by means of an all-School election. Much like
feeling about the House of Lords reform, it
seemed as if opinion was moving towards elected
positions!
“I was pleased
to hear that a range of more practical courses
were to be offered for those not predisposed to
sitting GCSE’s. If as a society we are hoping to
keep young people in education and/or training
for longer we need to hold their interest and
that means providing the opportunity for all
young people to find something at which they can
excel and which shows them a way to hold down a
rewarding job in the future. Additionally, I
hope the School’s application for Specialist
School status with English
as its core subjects, is successful. It
will
enable them to develop a centre
of excellence and work not only within a family
of named schools, but also in the wider
community of Chatteris, to raise standards
across the board for everyone.”
